Haul!

Diary of a Young Girl“I’ve found that there is always some beauty left — in nature, sunshine, freedom, in yourself; these can all help you.”

I first saw The Diary of a Young Girl at my university’s book fair but I had already spent too much & had no money left 😭😭😭😂😂😂. #ProblemsOfABibliophile. My luck, @usedbooksuae had it available & I bought it. Additionally, I also bought the bookmark, it’s so beautiful!! ❤️. I received both in perfect condition & with a quick delivery. I felt really interested in reading books that have the storyline of The Holocaust especially after reading The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult (I have a review on it on my blog, here’s a link: https://thebookierookieblog.wordpress.com/2017/05/06/jodi-picoult-the-storyteller/ )

Background: On this day, June 12th 1929, Anne Frank was born & on her 13th birthday she received an empty diary, & made her first entry. She was one of the most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust. The Diary of a Young Girl is where she documented her life in hiding from 1942-1944, during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War 2. She died while imprisoned at Bergen-Belsen, three months short of her 16th birthday. The day I received the package, June 12th, Anne Frank would’ve been 88.

Synopsis: The Diary of a Young Girl remains the single most poignant true-life story to emerge from the Second World War.

In July 1942 Anne Frank and her family, fleeing the horrors of Nazi occupation, hid in the back of an Amsterdam warehouse. Anne was thirteen when the family went into the Secret Annexe and, over the next two years, she vividly describes in her diary the frustrations of living in such confined quarters, the constant threat of discovery, the hungry and the fear. Her diary ends abruptly when, in August 1944, she and her family were finally discovered by the Nazis.

Anne Frank died in March 1945, aged fifteen, in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany.

This book provides a deeply moving and unforgettable portrait of Anne Frank – an ordinary and yet an extraordinary teenage girl.

Really looking forward to reading it. Have you read The Diary of a Young Girl? Leave your opinions in the comments down below! 👇🏼
