Sarah J. Maas – A Court of Wings and Ruin (ACOWAR)

ACOWAR“I will use these powers – my powers – to smash Hybern to bits. I will burn them, and drown them, and freeze them. I will use these powers to heal the injured. To shatter through Hybern’s wards. I have done so already, and I will do so again. And if you think that my possession of a kernel of your magic is your biggest problem, then your priorities are severely out of order.”

Sarah J. Maas is a New York Times Bestselling fantasy author. Her novels, Throne of Glass series & A Court of Thorns and Roses saga are published by Bloomsbury. A Court of Wings and Ruin (#3 in the saga) is a fantasy, young adult, romance book about Feyre returning to the Spring Court to gather information on Tamlin’s plans & the king who threatens to bring Prythian to its knees. She must play a dangerous game of deceit & one wrong move may cost her & her world, everything. As war is upon them, Feyre must be careful in choosing who to trust amongst the High Lords & hunt for allies in every unexpected place.

I hadn’t exactly heard of the series until ACOWAR’s super close publishing date & I thought “okay so it must be an amazing book for its fans to be so eagerly waiting for the third book to be released”. Which is when I started the series. For some reason, I was reading much faster with Rhysand in the chapters 😄. I felt so sad for Rhysand & Feyre being apart after just finding each other but they have a world to save. It was genius for Feyre to infiltrate the Spring Court to gather information on what Tamlin has been up to & plans for the nearing war & what exactly is the King planning for them. Slowly but surely also playing everyone in the Spring Court against each other. When time came for Feyre to execute her plan & finally return home to Rhysand, I was so glad that Lucien went with her.

“You all deserve to die for this. And for much, much more. But I am going to spare your miserable lives.” Feyre, you the High Lady of the Night Court *all hail*

I absolutely loveeeeeeeeeee Rhys & Feyre,

I do not let you do anything. He tilted my face up, Mor and Azriel looking away. You are your own person, you make your own choices. But we are mates – I am yours, and you are mine. We do not let each other do things, as if we dictate the movements of each other. But … I might have insisted I go with you. More for my own mental well-being, just to know you were safe.”

I love the friendship between Rhys, Feyre, Cassian, Mor, Amren & Azriel,

“I believe everything happens for a reason. Whether it is decided by the Mother, or the Cauldron, or some sort of tapestry of Fate, I don’t know. I don’t really care. But I am grateful for it, whatever it is. Grateful that it brought you all into my life. If it hadn’t … I might have become as awful as that prick we’re going to face today. If I had not met an Illyrian warrior-in-training,” he said to Cassian, “I would not have known the true depths of strength, of resilience, of honor and loyalty.” Cassian’s eyes gleamed bright.

Rhys said to Azriel, “If I had not met a shadowsinger, I would not have known that it is the family you make, not the one you are born into, that matters. I would not have known what it is to truly hope, even when the world tells you to despair.”

Mor was already crying when Rhys spoke to her. “If I had not met my cousin, I would never have learned that light can be found in even the darkest of hells. That kindness can thrive even amongst cruelty.” She wiped away her tears as she nodded.

I waited for Amren to offer a retort. But she was only waiting. Rhys bowed his head to her “If I had not met a ting monster who hoards jewels more fiercely than a firedrake…” a quiet laugh from all of us at that. Rhys smiled softly. “my own power would have consumed me long ago.”

Rhys squeezed my hand as he looked to me at last, “And if I had not met my mate…” His words failed him as silver lined his eyes.

He said down our bond, I would have waited five hundred more years for you. A thousand years. And if this was all the time we were allowed to have… the wait was worth it.

He wiped away the tears sliding down my face. “I believe that everything happened, exactly the way it had to… so I could find you.”

My heart breaks when Rhys tries to take all the troubles on his shoulders to protect his loved ones 😭😭💔

Some major surprises were Jurian not being the enemy, Mor coming out to Feyre, their dad coming to rescue them (The Prince of Merchants), Rhys dying & coming back to life which pretty much gave me a heart attack.

MANY TEARS WERE SHED THROUGHOUT THIS BOOK   😭😭😭😭 I’m sure you all can tell I really enjoyed this book & yes I know, so many quotes from the book, but could you really tell how much I loved it?

  1. The characters and the friendships are the heart and soul of these novels. The night court? *Swoon* Have you read the Throne of Glass series too? It gets off to a bit of a slow start in the first two novels, because SJM was a fairly new writer, but by book 5 it reaches ACOWAR level!
