Tess Gerritsen – The Surgeon
“This is a boy who never stood out, never alarmed anyone. This is the most frightening killer of all, because there’s no pathology, no psychiatric diagnosis. He’s like Ted Bundy. Intelligent, organized, and, on the surface, quite functional. But he has one personality quirk: he enjoys torturing women. This is someone you might work with every day. And you’d never suspect that when he’s looking at you, smiling at you, he’s thinking about some new and creative way to rip out your guts.”
Tess Gerritsen is an author & retired physician. Her debut novel (Harvest) marked her spot on the best sellers list. The Surgeon is a medical thriller, suspense, adult, crime, murder creation about a killer who targets women, breaks into their homes & conducts acts of torture: raping them & later slicing them open to remove the one organ that makes them women: the uterus. His surgical skills lead the police to believe he’s a physician. As homicide Detective Moore & his partner Rizzoli take the lead in the investigation they discover the one person that is at the centre of it all: Catherine Cordell. Now a doctor, she comes with a horrifying past from two years ago, when she was raped & had shot her attacker dead. The man she believes to have killed seems to be stalking her; this time knowing exactly where she is.
This book is incredibly written, if I could spend all my time just reading this with no breaks in between, I would. I love books with such gore details & finding a list on Good-Reads that compiled such books has been amazing. The Surgeon is written in incredible detail which of course is expected from a retired physician! The details even gave me the chills, the feeling of constant paranoia, just imagining how the women must have felt through out the entire act of getting raped, some time later being kidnapped, being cut open while STILL CONSCIOUS is horrifying. The entire journey of finding out who The Surgeon is was intense. As Catherine had shot her attacker, thinking it could be the same person who just hadn’t died had slim to none chances but WHO COULD BE DOING THE EXACT SAME TORTUROUS ACTS ON THE WOMEN? Wow. It’s the first book in a series of 12 books! I’m so excited to read the other books over the summer.
